Age 14 and Up
What if John McCain had won the American Presidency in 2008, then died a few months later leaving Sarah Palin to become America's first female president? What if political circumstance led to the repeal of Roe v. Wade, making abortion illegal again in nearly half of America? This is the reality of Sheila Martin's world. Sheila is a snarky, smart, fifteen-year-old piano prodigy whose main concern in life (besides boys) is her scheme to become an international pop star, just like Lady Gaga. Unfortunately, there are two problems keeping Sheila from realizing her dream the first is her conservative, controlling mother; the second is that Sheila is pregnant. Sheila is forced to grow up a little faster than she'd like to as she learns that the secrets of the past have a way of haunting the future, that no decision is ever black and white, and that in order to truly love she must first learn to forgive.

Well it wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't great, either. The story line itself is interesting and it does make you think about what would happen if the story was a reality. The political and scientific experiment excerpts didn't bother me that much, though I did find myself blanking out during it and wouldn't be able to remember what I was just reading about. What bothered me about this book was the character. I know she's 14, and this is supposed to be a "Dear Diary" sort of thing, but I found the character to be pretty annoying. She seemed incredibly self-absorbed. Think of the typical annoying young teenage girl who thinks the world revolves around her, and you have the main character, Sheila. The character was sort of hard to get around, but like I said, interesting storyline.

Expecting eBook Lula Belle Reviews
OKay so I have struggled with an approach to review this book because I don't want to make it controversial politically or pro-choice ect... I am not a very political person so I will just go ahead and admit that all the pages and chatter fiction or not was simply boring to me in those regards and I did find myself skimming those parts but I do understand why some of them needed to be mentioned for the stories sake.
Now on to the rest of the story. Sheila gets raped at the party and is forced by her mother to go thru with the pregnancy because she is against abortion. Sheila is only 14 years old and now preggers with a rape baby as she calls it and miserable because she desperatley wants to have an abortion.
The story is told by Sheila sort of like thru a diary about her day to day progress and how she is feeling towards the rape baby, her mom, and later about other young pregnant girls and stuff.
Once I skimmed the political stuff the overall story was actually pretty good!
This was an amazing book!
The main character, Sheila's voice comes through loud and clear throughout the entire book.
She's a 14 year old girl who makes some big mistakes and suffers the consequences of them. The consequences aren't small, due to her parent's beliefs, politics and the world and times they live in. A world that's very much like ours with a twist.
Sheila grows a lot in the course of the story. Things change a lot in the course of the story. Lessons are learned by all the characters and everyone comes out understanding each other more than when it all began. That doesn't mean everyone is happy or that everything is the same. But, different can be better in a lot of ways.
NOTHING in life is just black and white, yes or no, up or down. We don't and can't know everything about everyone in our lives.
And, sometimes, just maybe, we can forgive them and ourselves for the choices we all make. And, if not forgive, at least understand a little and learn.
I received a free copy of this book in order to review it.
This book is amazing It was a really good and sad at the same time. She should write another book a about them
Are you serious?! I can't believe how many 5-star reviews this has gotten.
I couldn't put the book down simply because I wanted to get it over with and never think about it again.
If you want to read a diary about a self-absorbed know-it-all teenage girl rambling for 20 pages about a fake election and fake science experiements, read this book.
I had to turn pages until she was done talking about politics. Seriously? A page or two, or even a large paragraph, is okay, but 10 to 20 pages was ridiculous. And it was RAMBLING.
Sorry, I'm heated. This was an awful book.
This book had me hooked from the first chapter on and I loved reading about this girl and understanding what she was going through...however I am curious how in the world a book could be written about such a messed up political system...I was so confused..
This books is fabulous. It wrestles with the weighty issue of abortion (among other politically current topics) with depth and grace. The main character, a teen girl named Sheila, lives in a world where abortion is illegal in her state and she is forced to carry to term her pregnancy by rape. Instead of sliding into easy, divisive platitudes about either side of the argument, Ms. Belle makes vivid the choices we all must make, not only about politics, but about who we are, and what we can understand about ourselves. The heroine is magnificent, her teen voice is carried through the book with pitch-perfect tone. I found myself laughing aloud at her precocious, yet very teen ways of seeing the world, which when that world includes the adult issues of politics and childbirth can make for novel viewpoints. I also laughed at how prescient the world Ms. Belle created is. But underneath that humor is a book with a big heart. I highly recommend you read this book, and then pass it to your children (or your book club). It's sure to lead to meaningful discussion and a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the big issues underpinning our political dialogue, as well as the big issues inherent in growing-up.
