Portland, Oregon, vintage clothing store owner, Joanna Hayworth, is in a tight spot. Her plans to upgrade her store have derailed and costs are mounting. When she wins three trunks of vintage haute couture in an auction, she thinks her luck has changed—but it’s about to get much worse. The clothing’s high-society matron owner turns up poisoned to death, and police seize the wardrobe, leaving Joanna with more debt, a friend wrongly jailed for diamond theft, and a convent of quirky nuns depending on her help. There’s only one way to calmer waters find the murderer, and fast.

I enjoyed this second Joanna Hayworth mystery even more than the first. Angela Sanders is really hitting her stride! We get to know Joanna and her friends better, and there are more odd but likeable characters rounding out the cast of suspects. As in the previous book, Portland itself is practically a character of its own, as the story winds its way from the snooty West Hills to an amusement park to the county jail, with some very unexpected stops in between.

We also get a better sense of Joanna's dry sense of humor and her taste for adventure. In fact, the book is quite funny (murder notwithstanding)! The mystery is absorbing, with excellent clues that for me fell into place once I knew who the murderer was (I love it when I get stumped.) And, as always, I love love love the descriptions of the vintage clothes - a passage describing Joanna "thrifting" (shopping) is so brilliant that I practically had to grab my car keys and head to the nearest Goodwill. It's tons of fun. Highly recommend!

Dior or Die Vintage Clothing Mysteries Book 2 edition by Angela M Sanders Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

It was well written and I truly enjoyed it. The mystery was good but didn't enjoy one main character dying.
Fun mystery with kooky nun and travelers a
L around a girl engrossed in vintage clothes. I love all the history of the vintage designers. If you like vintage this is for you
I enjoy reading these comfy mysteries. The plot twists and turns with vintage clothing in the background. You learn a little about history of fashion along the way. My only complaint is that Joanna is an idiot. She asks all the wrong questions, she assumes everyone thinks like herself, and unless you hire a brass band to draw her attention to a clue, she will misinterpret it based on what she thinks. Honestly, you will want to bash her non-functioning little brain in. Buy this because it's a good book.
I liked the first book in this series and was pleased when the second volume came out. Vintage clothing is always fun to read about - it amuses me that fashion that was cutting edge in my youth is now a treasured antique and the descriptions of the clothing bring back all sorts of memories.

The plot of the book is pretty good. It held my interest throughout - not always the case with this genre. I also really enjoyed the characters of the nuns who assist Joanna in this story, especially the mother superior.

The book can be read as a stand alone, but I think that you might appreciate it more if you read the Lanvin book first. That way you can follow the development and improvement of the vintage clothing store and find out how Joanna and her male friend first met. It will enrich your appreciation of this second work.

I noted that the book is now available for free if you have a Unlimited subscription. I actually bought it, so I definitely thought it was a worthwhile read; however, I have found that a lot of the books currently available through Unlimited are really not very good, but I read constantly so it has saved me some money. If you are thinking about subscribing, browse through the available books first to see if you are interested in them, also evaluate how much you read. It might not be worth it if you only read one or two books a month. Just something everyone should consider for themselves.
I read Book 1 in this series and loved it, and really enjoyed Book 2 also. Now that I know the main characters I looked forward to seeing how they developed and their fortunes improved or declined. I was not disappointed. For me there is the right balance of suspense, drama, romance, and comedic relief. I love the northwest setting and the info on vintage clothing. I'm looking forward to Book 3.
Book two in the Vintage Clothing mystery series is even better than the first one. I really enjoyed this book, especially the nuns! So many fun, believable characters and the added bonus is the drooling over the clothing descriptions. This series satisfies my taste for a cozy mystery with a bit more edge to it.
The heroine of this series, Joanna Hayworth, finds herself in many complications. A collection of vintage clothing is seized when the owner is murdered. A friend is accused of a crime. Many people begin to depend on her when she has many problems of her own. Still many twists and surprises in a well written book. Very entertaining and more to come.
